Biography
Professor St. Val joined the faculty in 2026, bringing a background in teaching critical thinking, effective writing, and competent practice skills to law students and attorneys.
Her academic career includes significant professional service and editorial leadership. She has been actively involved with the Legal Writing Institute and the Association of Legal Writing Directors and has held editorial leadership roles with The Journal of the Legal Writing Institute.
An accomplished scholar and presenter, St. Val’s work has been published in scholarly journals and books, featured in the media, and highlighted at conferences and workshops. Her research interests include labor and employment law, occupational licensing and worker classification, legal education, professional identity formation, and student well-being.
A member of the State Bar of Michigan and The Florida Bar, she brings experience working in state courts and a skills-based approach to legal education. As the founder of a legal writing consulting practice, she also provides consulting services to legal professionals.
Outside of her legal work, St. Val is an avid painter. She is fluent in Haitian Creole and is working toward becoming fluent in French.
